NY/HELP News

The January NY/HELP mission trip to Honduras was abruptly cancelled by the sudden illnesses of family members of the leaders in both countries.  All who were to travel have gotten airline credit for a future trip.  We hope this trip will take place later in the spring.

On March 21, there will be a meeting of the NY/HELP Steering Committee at Noon on Saturday, March 21, 2015  at the Honeoye UCC in Honeoye, NY.  We will be working on future plans.  Anyone interested is welcome to come.

In the meantime, our previous coordinator in Honduras, Yovany MunguĂa, has left, leaving a void in our program.  Jorge “Joel” Ramirez, the president of the Tribal Development Committee, has agreed to step in as coordinator at this time.  Joel has been working with NY/HELP on community development projects for several years, and has been very helpful and efficient in that role.

The January group had planned to work with the indigenous communities of El Chorro and Las Brisas to construct a small Kinder (kindergarten) building in each community.  Although the January trip was postponed, the communities have gone ahead and constructed these buildings themselves, under the supervision of Joel.  NY/HELP has just sent funds to pay for the final work needed to complete these projects.
